# The Blue Lagoon # This movie was released in 1980 and is about two kids who are stranded on a tropical island. They are adopted by the only other survivor, an inventor...shark-man, who takes care of them for years, teaching them how to survive in this strange world. When their new guardian dies, they find that the outside world is not so kind to strange teenagers. It's up to these two to survive on their own. This movie is loaded with a plethora of English idioms and references for those that are into that sort of thing. It's a true classic to this day, and I'd recommend it to any fan of American culture. The Blu-Ray set is incredibly cheap, so take it. # The Blue Lagoon (Blu-Ray) # The original 1981 big screen version is now finally released on Blu-Ray by Synapse Films. This version expands on the film due to the extra footage needed to fill out the running time. You can tell that there was more planned for this feature than what got made, and boy does it feel like this one was ready for release. There is a lot of dialog and some running around on the beach, but that's about it. The transfer is beautiful and it looks like the "PAL Heavy" format that many U.S. films seem to use, so you'll get a little more than your money's worth on image size and quality almost almost all films out there today. There are loads of extras included, so this is a great release to any fans of Arthurian legend or just this movie in general. # Island of the Dead # The Island of the Dead (German: Die Toteninsel) is a 1971 West German horror film directed by Eugenio Martin and starring Christopher Lee, Herbert Lom and Klaus Kinski. # Return to The Blue Lagoon # This is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name. In this version, a vacationing family is stranded on a tropical island after an airship accident. It's up to one member of the family, Kristen Parker (Kate Hudson), to find a way back home. She meets a native named Tui (Alexander Ludwig), who helps her out. His means of transportation involve flying through the air on a giant bird-like creature called "the bird." This is definitely light fare for now, but it does offer some laughs now and again. The Blu-ray quality looks nice, but it doesn't feature any special features or anything like that either. It does have an Ultraviolet digital copy included, however, so if you are into that sort of thing. # Return to The Blue Lagoon (Blu-Ray) # Not only did I tell you that the original was chopped up for syndication back in the day, this edition is also an extended version of the 2002 theatrical release. This version is full-length and looks absolutely beautiful. The picture quality looks great, but it really could have been cleaned up a bit more since there are some instances where it's noticeably grainy. There are some special features on here, though nothing too extravagant.
